Sword Knight Boot Camp is coming up fast!
Are you ready for three days of intense fighting and learning with some of the best instructors in the country? Everyone—from instructors to students to FWACK—is fired up for this year’s SKBC. We know it’s a big investment, especially if you're new to competitive foam fighting, and you may be wondering how to get the most from your time. Let us help you prepare with tips drawn from more than 20 years of SKBC experience.
- Increase your stamina: SKBC is packed with chances to fight. You'll spar with students and instructors from all over the country, and the schedule is built to maximize those opportunities. Start preparing now—build endurance and agility with exercises, drills, and conditioning that target the muscles and movements you'll rely on most.
- Skill development: Take time to think about which skills you want to focus on. Talk to your fighting company, local mentors, or experienced Warlords to get their input. Revisit your foundations and make sure they’re solid. If something feels shaky, start reinforcing it now—you’ll grow faster when SKBC begins.
- Set goals: Whether it’s refining a weapon skill, learning new tactics, or picking up missing fundamentals, having clear and realistic goals will keep you focused and motivated throughout the event.
- Rest and recovery: Don’t underestimate the importance of recovery. Get enough sleep, eat well, hydrate (seriously, drink water), and build in recovery routines like stretching or yoga to stay strong throughout the weekend.
- Mental preparation: SKBC will test you mentally as well as physically. Go in with a game plan. Set your goals, visualize success, and practice positive self-talk. Stay focused and resilient—especially when you’re tired or things get tough.
- Study fights: Watch footage, break down tournament matches, and analyze how top fighters approach different scenarios. The more you understand the game, the smarter and more strategic you’ll become in real-time.
- Proper gear: Make sure your equipment is in good condition before you arrive. Check swords, shields, shoes, gloves—everything. Comfortable, reliable gear means fewer distractions and better performance.
- Positive attitude: Show up ready to learn. Push yourself, listen to your instructors, and stay open to growth—even when it’s uncomfortable. Your mindset sets the tone not only for your experience but for the community around you.
Preparation is key to success. By investing time and effort before you arrive, you’ll show up stronger, learn more, and leave SKBC with lasting gains in skill, knowledge, and confidence.
